The Defense at Stoneheart, a Svae storyIt was another cold day in the highest reaches of the Snowteeth. A chill wind howled along the pearly bluffs enclosing the Chasm pass, and flowed down the crevasse walls in hungry torrents to bathe the impregnable Fort Stoneheart in snowy spumes. Hemmed in by sheer cliffs of ice and stone and behind the protective walls of the fort, three dozen figures stood hunched against the cold or walked with haste to their next assignment within the warm confines of the fort interior. In the field behind the main wall, eighteen recruitspeasants both in manner and in garb, accoutered with ill-fitting leather jerkins that granted sturdy defense against the claws of the enemy but little relief from the bitter windsstood at attention as the massive form of their commanding officer strode to and fro before their line. All of them, that is, save one who nursed a bruised hand through the thick padding of one woolen glove: the wooden sword which itThe Defense at Stoneheart, a Svae story by VoidFire
The Misadventures of Lotz, pt. 3//A Svae short~The Misadventures of Lotz, pt. 3The Misadventures of Lotz, pt. 3//A Svae short by VoidFire
That evening, Lotz decided to take his own advice and sought Dart out. He found the rogue up to his usual hijinks, attending a dice game in an alleyway behind one of the town's most disreputable bars. While the little quaare had at first been drawn to the game, weighing the remaining money that Goban had given him in one hand, the sad image of the terata's face--not to mention Tima's--kept bothering him whenever Dart asked if he wanted to join, and much to his surprise he turned down the invitation twice. He was eagerly awaiting a third invitation, however, when he realized that the sun was falling low in the sky and it was right about the time that Gellets and his hired hands usually went to call in their loans. They rather jovially referred to the practice as 'thumping.'
He was thinking about what to say to Dart in regards to leaving before any trouble found them when he heard the soft steps of someone appr

Part the First:
Haven't been around Heinlein Station in a while. It's been nearly two months longer than I expected. I've been lost, y'know. In a wonderful place, too. Name of Svae, 's what the locals told me.
Is there any more of this Stardust? This is a good vintage, very good flavor. You should have some yourself. None of that station-made beer, the stuff is aquatic bilge. Anyway, I've promised you a story.
Not really sure what happened. I was making my annual run to Autumn and never made it. The computer ran some strange error messages at me. "Unknown location, Z-axis skip, drunkard's walk." You know what any of that means? I didn't. Still don't, except it means the stupid machine couldn't figure out where it was and it stopped recording. Maybe it was some kind of wormhole and the system couldn't handle the input. It's not important. There was a bright flash, the power died for nearly a minute. Thought that was the end. Dying in the dark, air running o
Javen's storyChapter 1Javen's story by eica9
Javen was decidedly in a good mood that morning. It was quiet in the large manor. All you could hear were the birds chirping and the forest trees swaying in the soft breeze. Javen leaned back against the back of the chair and sighed, his violet eyes focused on nothing in particular. He found that even thoughts of his sickened younger brother couldn't dampen his mood.
Kokuro had been always weak and frail. He, Javen and their sister Isha had always gotten along, but as they grew older, Kokuro was able to play with them less and less, until finally, one day, he was sent off to a well known healer on the other side of the world. It was a sad day. Isha tried to be strong, but Javen noted sadly that even he could see through her mask. Later that day, he too fought off tears as he tried to comfort his sister. Saerin wasn't any help. Javen's lazy expression suddenly turned hard as he remembered Saerin's face as Kokuro turned to wave a slim hand in their direction. Javen

"Get them within the circle."
A dark shadow descended upon the village as impenetrable black clouds rolled overhead, chittering screams echoing down across miles of open farmland while wagons full of the season's harvest trundled over the narrow bridge that led into town. A fiery-feathered woman stood at the far end, symbols arrayed before her feet, protective runes emblazoned with her power. The masterful weaver who had scratched them into the ground, a full month of his labor inscribing his magic into a circle around the village, was out there now, at the farthest farmhouse trying to help two elderly terata make it into town before the storm hit.
"But Rishara, you don't need to stay out here. When those clouds come down--"
"I'll be fine. Go."
Little Yanchu's ears drooped, and then he was gone. He was dreadfully worried about his father, the weaver who--with her aid--had protected this place. She
